According to Guinness World Records, the longest putt ever made in a major golf tournament was 110 feet, achieved by Jack Nicklaus in the 1964 Tournament of Champions.
The longest putt at the Institute of Hospitality Golf Day 2025, in Partnership with Meiko UK will be decided on the 8th May at The Belfry.
Once all teams are back from the day’s play and relaxing in the 19th they will be called to compete again, in a new addition to the day, the longest putt. The challenge will be overseen by Neil Walker, Account Director of Golf at The Belfry.
The putt being attempted by the golfers is 100 feet, not quite a Guinness World Record, but a significant challenge nonetheless.
This new feature is being sponsored by Accessible Hospitality Alliance, to emphasise just how challenging it can be for some who live with a disability to enjoy accessible hospitality and/or developing a career in our industry.

Chair of Accessible Hospitality Alliance, Robin Sheppard, also President of the UK’s largest independent hotel company, Bespoke Hotels, and a past chair of the Institute of Hospitality told us about the competition and the sponsorship rationale: “The hospitality industry does much to cater for the needs of people who live with a disability as guests and colleagues. But more could be done to further improve guest experience and make our workplaces more inclusive.
“The Accessible Hospitality Alliance is devoted to making the hospitality sector accessible for all. We aim to bring the industry together around the common goal of inclusivity, focusing on accessible workplaces and venues.
“We are under no illusion that attaining our purpose and our path forward will be easy, they are not. Inclusivity enriches society, and propels innovation, economic growth, and wellbeing. Inclusivity contributes to the creation of a world where everyone feels they belong and can contribute positively. Thankfully more and more hospitality and catering businesses are embracing these principles, long may that continue.”

Robert Richardson FIH MI, Chief Executive of the Institute of Hospitality welcomed the new feature to the golf day saying: “I am proud to stand alongside Robin and the Accessible Hospitality Alliance team’s purpose.
“Designing and delivering truly inclusive experiences that resonate with every customer drives new business opportunities.
“In today’s competitive landscape, accessibility isn’t just a compliance requirement, it’s a key differentiator that drives loyalty, engagement and innovation. Accessible hospitality is good for business.”
The winner of the longest putt will be awarded at dinner in the evening with a bottle of champagne, and a trophy.
The Belfry is the only golf resort in the world to have hosted the Ryder Cup four times, more than any other venue.
